Summary:
Perform
SRDF Operations via the SRDF/TF Manager (STM) within the ControlCenter Console
Objectives:
a)
Create Device Groups and add devices to Devices Groups for SRDF
Operations
b)
Determine the SRDF status devices in a Device Group.
c)
Modify SRDF operational modes.
d)
Perform SRDF operations (Failover, Failback, Split, Establish, Suspend,
Resume).
1.
Launch the ControlCenter Console
In
this Lab we will be focusing on the SRDF capabilities within the ControlCenter
Console
2.
SRDF Operations
a)
Click on the “Data Protection” Button so that the TimeFinder, SRDF and
QoS options show on the main menu.
b)
Identify SRDF devices presented to your host.
(1)
Drill down into the Hosts folder on the Tree, identify the host assigned
to you and drill down into your host.
(2)
Click on the Relationship Button from the Short Cut bar to make the Target
Panel heading “Relationship”. Click
and drag the “Host Devices” folder of your host into the Target Panel. This
will show you a relationship view of all the devices presented to your host. The
Symmetrix array will appear to the right of the display, the SRDF devices can be
identified by the “Arrows” on the devices. List the SRDF devices presented
to your host.

c)
Create a SRDF Device Group and add assigned SRDF devices to it:
(1)
Use the Device Group Wizard to create a device group with the RDF devices
on the host assigned to you.
(2)
Call your instructor for help if you run into any problems.
(3)
Drill down into the “Device Group” folder. You should see the newly
created device group. Drill down into the newly created device group. It will
have a number of folders. One of them will be “R1 Devices” or “R2
Devices” depending on the Type you chose when you created the device group.
d)
Checking the SRDF Status and Operating Mode
(1)
Clear all objects from the
Target Panel by clicking on the “Eraser Button” in the Objects Tree Pane.
Then choose “SRDF” from the “Data Protection” pull down menu to change
the Target Panel to the SRDF View.
(2)
Click and drag your Device Group into the Target Panel.
SRDF information on all the devices in your device group will now be
shown in the target panel. Record the following information.

Call your instructor for help if the “Pair State” is not
“synchronized” or if the “Mode” is not “Synchronous”.
f)
Changing the SRDF operational mode:
(1)
Let us first change the Primary mode for the whole device group. Right
click on the device group > Choose “Data Protection” > SRDF > Mode
Control…. This will open up the SRDF mode control window. Check the “Mode”
box and choose “semi-sync” Primary mode. Click OK, wait for the success
window and then wait till the SRDF view changes and shows you the newly set
primary mode.
(2)
Enabling Adaptive Copy mode. Right click on the device group > Choose
“Data Protection” > SRDF > Mode Control…. This will open up the SRDF
mode control window. Click on the Adaptive copy box and then choose “write
pending” and click OK. Wait for the success window and then record the changes
made to the SRDF view.
(3)
Change the Primary mode back to sync.
Right click on the device group > Choose “Data Protection” >
SRDF > Mode Control…. This will open up the SRDF mode control window. Click
the “Mode” box and choose “sync”, click OK.
You will see that choosing the Sync mode automatically disables the
Adaptive copy mode.
g)
Disaster Recovery Operations: Performing Failover and Failback operations
(1)
Failover:
Right click on the device group > Choose “Data Protection” > SRDF >
Fail Over…. This will open up the SRDF Fail Over window. Click OK. The Fail
over operation will occur. Record the following information from the SRDF view
window after the changes have occurred. What is the significance of these
changes?

Failback:
Right click on the device group > Choose “Data Protection” > SRDF >
Fail Back…. This will open up the SRDF Fail Back window. Click OK. The Fail
back operation will occur. Record the following information from the SRDF view
window after the changes have occurred.

h)
Concurrent Operations: Performing Split operation for concurrent access
and then an Establish operation to continue normal SRDF operation.
(1)
Split:
Right click on the device group > Choose “Data Protection” > SRDF >
Split…. This will open up the SRDF Split window. Click OK. The Split operation
will occur. Record the following information from the SRDF view window after the
changes have occurred. Comment on the significance of these changes.

Establish:
Right click on the device group > Choose “Data Protection” > SRDF >
Establish…. This will open up the SRDF Establish window. Click OK. The
Establish operation will occur. Record the following information from the SRDF

SRDF Lab Clean Up: Delete the SRDF device group that you had created.
Right Click on the device group and choose Delete. Confirm the deletion.
