Summary:

Familiarize with the SAN Manager Interface of EMC ControlCenter 5.1.1.

 

Objectives:

a)                 Discover fabrics and switches.

b)                 Customize and save Topology views.

c)                 Display Zoning information.

d)                 Create new Zones.

e)                 Create new Zone sets.

f)                   Import/Refresh Active Zone sets.

g)                 Explore Storage Device Masking tasks.

 

  1. Discover fabric or switch.

    1. On the Console Task Bar, click Monitoring.

    2. Select Discover -> Connectivity.

    3. In the Search for Connectivity Devices dialog box, enter the IP address or range of IP addresses for the switches or the fabric to be discovered.

    4. In the Advanced Options, verify that the following are selected (checked): Discover fabric for switches, Import active zone set, Import inactive zone sets, Prompt for missing connectivity information.

    5. Click Search Now.

    6. Verify that the discovery was successful.

 

  1. Customize and save Topology views.

    1. On the Console Task Bar, click Monitoring.

    2. On the Menu Bar, select Topology.

    3. Select one or more switches from the Tree panel.

    4. After the Topology Map is displayed, choose Action in the Topology Pane. Choose View Preferences -> Save as. Enter a name in the Save View as dialog box. Clear the Topology view.

    5. Click on the Action menu of the Topology Pane -> View Preferences -> Open, select the view created in Step b. Verify that this view is displayed in the Topology Pane.

 

  1. View Zoning information.

    1. In the Tree Pane, open the Connectivity folder.

    2. Open the Fabrics folder.

    3. Open a fabric.

    4. Open the Active Zone Set folder.

    5. Drill down into the active zone set and list the Active Zones present. Explore the Active Zones to determine further details.

    6. Are there any Planned Zones or Zone Sets?_______________

 

  1. Create a new Zone.

    1. In the Tree Pane, open the folders Connectivity -> Fabrics.

    2. Open a fabric and right-click on Planned Zones. Select New -> Zone. Enter a name. This new zone now appears in the Planned Zones folder.

    3. Right-click on the new zone created in step b, and select Edit. The Manage Zone window appears.

    4. Select a Host Adapter and click Add, select a Storage Port and click Add. Choose OK.

    5. Verify that the zone has these members.

 

5.      Create a new Zone set.

    1. Right-click on the Planned Zone Sets folder and select New ŕ Zone Set. Enter a name in the Create Zone Set dialog box and click OK.

    2. Right Click on the new Planned Zone set created in step a, and select Edit.

    3. In the Manage Zone Set window, select the Zone created in step 4 from the “Available Zones” column and click Add. Click OK.

    4. The planned Zone now appears under the planned Zone set.

 

  1. Import/Refresh Active Zone.

    1. Expand the Connectivity folder down to Fabrics.

    2. Right-click on a fabric and select -> Zoning -> Import Zone Set -> Import Active.

    3. Click on Execute. Specify a name for the Task and click OK.

    4. Expand the Storage Administration folder down to SAN Task Lists.

    5. Switch the view to Properties and select the task created in step c above.

    6. Verify that this task has completed successfully.

 

  1. Storage Device Masking.

    1. From the Menu Bar select Storage Allocation -> Masking.

    2. In the Tree Pane, select a host attached to a Symmetrix.

    3. The Symmetrix Devices accessible by this host is displayed in the Target Pane, highlighted.

    4. Right-click on the host and select Masking -> Modify Masking Configurations.

    5. In the Modify Masking Configurations window, select a storage array (Symmetrix) and choose Show Devices. This window allows the user to Grant access or Remove access to devices. The Granting of access can also be saved as a task and executed later. Consult your instructor for the appropriate steps to be taken.
